Red Champagne' is an old, reliable cultivar known for its early to mid-season harvest. The long, reddish-pink stems are not only visually appealing but also offer a deliciously sweet flavour, making them ideal for culinary use. Here are some key features and care tips for this plant:

-Harvest Time: This cultivar is typically ready for harvest from May onwards, providing an early supply of rhubarb for pies, jams, and other culinary delights. It is also suitable for forcing, allowing for an earlier harvest.

-Mature Height & Spread: Rheum Rhabarbarum 'Red Champagne' reaches a mature height and spread of approximately 50cm, making it a compact plant suitable for smaller garden spaces.

-Hardiness: 'Red Champagne' is fully hardy, meaning it can withstand cold temperatures and harsh winter conditions without protection. This makes it suitable for cultivation in a wide range of climates.

-Watering: Water 'Red Champagne' moderately, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Avoid overwatering, as rhubarb plants are susceptible to root rot in soggy soil.

-Position: Plant 'Red Champagne' in a location that receives light sun to light shade. It thrives in well-drained soil with adequate moisture levels.

-Pruning: In the first year, harvest sparingly to allow the plant to establish itself. Remove any flowerheads that may develop to redirect energy into stem production. Allow the foliage to naturally die back in autumn, then cut away the old leaves to expose the growing points to winter cold, promoting healthy regrowth in the following season.
