The Guardman hanging basket easy moss liner is suitable as a liner for a 14" hanging basket. Green in colour, it is a long lasting moss effect liner. Made from polypropylene for moisture retention as well as a sisal and jute mix which absorbs water. The liner has a natural moss look created from recycled fibers and is a long lasting alternative to traditional moss and fiber liners. Aim to cover the inside of the basket with about a 1.5cm (½in) thick layer of the material and then half fill the basket with compost.

Hanging baskets rely most on the gardener to ensure they don't dry out. Poor flowering can be remedied by ensuring the baskets stay moist but not soggy, feed once a week with a liquid fertiliser and if you hang your baskets in winter keep them in sheltered and sunny spots if possible. Flowers provide valuable colour and hanging baskets can provide it in summer and winter.

If your hanging basket is for the summer months the best time to plant is from April onwards. They will need protection against frost until the middle or end of May and if you have a greenhouse it is usually easier to start planting them in there. For a winter hanging basket, you would normally plant hardy plants and it best to plant those around September and October. Once the basket is planted check them every day in Summer and water them always unless the compost is wet.

In winter they don't tend to dry out as quickly but they still need regular checking as your aim is to keep the compost moist and not soggy. Use the appropriate tools to fix the bracket to the wall. Plan ahead and measure the distance beforehand if you are hanging more than one basket.
