CountryLife garden centres will sell a special floral gift for Mother’s Day with all proceeds from the sale going to the Irish Cancer Society. The Mother’s Day Spring Blooms Bowl – a collection of seasonal bedding plants of Primroses, Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête' and Pansies arranged in a pink Roma Planter bowl – will go on sale in stores this week as well as online at  All of the flowers are grown in Ireland by Bord Bia award-winning grower Spring Nurseries, Co. Cork.

Orla, a primary school teacher and 2004 winner of the Rose of Tralee, is mother to two-year-old Con and expecting her second child in just two weeks time. Breast cancer is an issue close to Orla. In 2001, at just 17, she lost her own mother to the disease. According to the Irish Cancer Society breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in Ireland after non melanoma skin cancer and affects over 2,500 women every year, making it the most common invasive cancer in women.

Speaking at the launch, Orla O’Shea said, “Having lost my own mother to breast cancer at a young age, this initiative by CountryLife garden centres is one I’m delighted to support as it raises money for and maintains an awareness of breast cancer at a time of year when we cherish and celebrate mothers and women”.

“This Mother’s Day, thousands of Irish people will go out and buy gifts for their wives and mothers. In doing our bit for breast cancer fundraising, we’re delighted to donate from the sale of our Mother’s Day Bloom Bowl to the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme and would ask people to support us when purchasing their Mother’s Day gift this year”, commented James Byrne, Retail Marketing Manager, Glanbia Agri Business.
