The apple of my eye

by Malachy - Horticulturist CountryLife Dungarvan | Oct 16, 2015

My wife loves Pink Lady applesMy wife loves Pink Lady apples and always buys a tray of six each week in the supermarket. Since she loved them so much I set off on a mission to find a tree for our own garden so we would have our own supply. After finally tracking one down I am pleased to report that we will be picking our first apples from it in the coming weeks.

When I got the new tree for the garden I also had to buy a second tree that flowered at the same time so that they could be cross pollinated and we would get apples. This is always something to keep in the back of your mind with apple trees. You have to have trees that will complement each other and flower at the same time. If you are in doubt about flowering times for different apple trees check in store for good companion trees to plant in your garden.
