Controlling weeds around Strawberries

Controlling weeds around Strawberries

Weeds can pose a big problem around strawberry plants as they are often hard to remove and strawberries do not like competition for food or light.

Traditionally people would have placed a layer of straw around the plants to act as a mulch and prevent weeds from growing.

Now however many people will use Mypex membrane or a similar weed supressing membrane. This would be applied once you have the bed prepared and then holes cut out to place the plants into. This had the added bonus of keeping the fruit clean too.
