Make your own Fuchsia

by CountryLife Gardening | May 27, 2015

Make your own standard fuchsiaWhile many gardeners will just be after a regular bushy fuchsia, many like to use standard Fuchsia (pictured) as a specimen plant in shrubs or in containers on patios.

These can often be more expensive in garden centres due to the work put in to grow them. It is easy to do this at home however if you have the time.

  • Simply buy a vigorous plant and plant it in the normal manner.
  • Then place a bamboo cane beside the plant and attach the main growing stem to the cane.
  • Over the coming weeks encourage it to grow upwards and remove any side branches that appear.
  • Once it has reached the desired height start to pinch the main growing bud until it forms a bushy head.
