Caring for your Poinsetta

by User Not Found | Dec 09, 2013

Christmas is nearly here and with that we have a few tips on how to care for your Christmas plants. This week we are starting with poinsettia which came to Europe from Mexico. Because of its bright,
red flowers it became a popular Christmas decoration and nowadays it’s hard to imagine Christmas without it.

It’s a great way to brighten up your house this December and if you follow the tips from our
horticulturist Fergal your plant may last even until Easter.
·         Water your plant when it feels dry to touch
·         Place a layer of pebbles on a tray beneath the plant to keep the plant out of water
 and increase humidity
·         Place your plant in bright, but not direct sunlight
·         Give the plant a minimum of six hours of light each day
·         Maintain Temperatures between 18 – 24 c
·         Avoid extreme temperature changes
·         Avoid placing the plant near fire places, drafts & ventilation ducts
